ECONOMY


The economic base of the Navajo Tribe is centered on four distinctive industries: tourism, minerals, agriculture and livestock, and manufacturing. The resources for develop these industries is for dividends about petroleum that find in their zone

Tourism

Tribal leaders recognize the biggest potential of natural landscapes such as the Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, the Colorado River, and more. Over to 5,000 acres with more of 15 touristic places in the natural Reservation.

This place is welll- know as the more popular for play sports such as mountain climbing, skiing, and camping. Many visitors travel through the Reservation each year.

Minerals

At present, gas, oil, and uranium constitute the most important mineral resources on the reservation. Oil and gas mining were developed in the northern part of the reservation such as 1907. In 1988, 600.000 acres of land were used for development of oil and gas reserves of the tribe.

A recent discovery of additional uranium sources has created a major controversy among the federal and tribal governments. Also the searching through the Colorado River is increasing for find other reservations the Navajo reservation.

Agriculture and Livestock

A lot of time the Navajo economy has been the livestock and agriculture trades. Many Navajos use these income sources as secondary incomes as well. Many more families are employed fulltime in the herding and production of sheep which is stills the main meat eaten on the large reservation.

Although many young people are now seeking further education and skilled jobs in the agrarian lifestyle, this situation will be considerate for conservation the traditional culture and costumes.

Manufacturing

The Navajo tribe is very grateful for its cloths, fibers and designs with they produce their own clothes and when take employ many people in borders of tribe.
